Personalized Learning

With 4 weeks to go in the spring semester, as we shift our focus to the assessment and evaluation of students’ cumulative learning and skill sets, we would like to shed light on a newly trending philosophy of Personalized Learning.  Personalized Learning is defined as "a broad range of services, tools, and curricular models designed to create individualized learning for students" (Educause, 2016).  As a learner-centered college, emphasis is already placed on the students’ incoming experiences and allowing students opportunities to have input in the direction of their educational experience here at PVCC.  Personalized Learning takes learner centered thinking one step further and gives instructors an opportunity to customize and specialize learning experiences for students individually, to ensure comprehension, skill attainment and measure outcomes uniquely.  This video gives a brief introduction into designing Personalized Learning experiences for students, and the corresponding article addresses six key issues aimed at “address(ing) three broad, student-facing functions: education planning, counseling and coaching, and risk targeting and intervention” for ensuring student success.  Going forward, the CTL staff is here to support faculty who are interested in learning how to incorporate Personalized Learning strategies in their future courses.  Read more...
