Tech Tips

If you open a Word file via Windows Explorer and you have the Preview Pane open the first thing that will happen is that the preview window will start reading the file to display the preview of that file, in the meantime Word itself will also start reading the file. Sometimes the two process will conflict and Word will determine that it can't open the file for editing because the file is locked, therefore Word will open the document as read-only. To change this behaviour either disable the Preview Pane by pressing the ALT + P keys in Windows Explorer or open the file from within Word via File>Open.

Canvas Corner

Did you know… on June 30th, Maricopa launched a new teaching and learning tool within Canvas called Commons.  Canvas Commons allows:
  • Faculty (and users with teacher and designer access to Canvas courses) to search for and use relevant materials from personal, institutional or public learning object repositories.
  • Faculty (and users with teacher and designer access to Canvas courses) to share relevant materials to personal, institutional or public learning object repositories.
  • Training sessions will be offered during PVCC’s Summer Fun Technology Week, 7/18 - 7/21, as well as future dates.  Click here to learn more about this tool in the Maricopan Article.
